Norwich MP to sit on Environmental Audit Committee

Norwich South MP Simon Wright has been nominated by his Liberal Democrat parliamentary colleagues to be their Party's member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee.

Mr Wright said: "I'm looking forward to getting stuck in to the business of this committee. Environmental matters have been close to my heart from a young age, and being on this committee gives me the opportunity to scrutinise the impact of Government policy across all departments and agencies.

"This Committee has been responsible for some highly significant reports in the areas of bio-diversity, the impact of international

development policies, and sustainable housing. It was this Committee's concerns about emissions relating to some biofuels that led to a change in government targets.

"The first job will be to decide our programme of inquiries for this session. I look forward to playing a full role in the committee, and am grateful to my colleagues for having the confidence to nominate me as a new MP to this important committee."
