Norwich MP will today call on Government to set out plans for post office network12.30.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 8th Jul 2010
Norwich South MP Simon Wright will today (Thursday) call on the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable, to state his plans for the future of the Post Office network. Mr Wright will question the Secretary of State in Parliament during Business, Innovation and Skills Oral Questions. Mr Wright said: "A couple of years ago, I fought alongside local residents to save post offices in Norwich from the previous Government's closure programme. I'm seeking assurances from this Government that local people will not have to go through that again. "With some bold and creative thinking, we can and must reinvigorate the network of post office branches. "Many people rely on their local post office, including many elderly people and others with mobility problems. When a branch is lost, it is often the vulnerable who suffer the most." Note: Mr Wright has the sixth question on the agenda for the session, which includes a chance for a supplementary question. Question reads: Simon Wright (Norwich South): What plans he has to ensure the financial viability of the Post Office network.
