Call on HSBC To Retain UEA Cash Machines

6.25.00pm GMT Tue 19th Feb 2008

HSBC is being lobbied to ensure that the bank's student customers in Norwich are provided for, despite the announcement of the closure of the HSBC bank branch on the UEA campus. The branch is due to close on 18 April, but the future of the cash machines is unknown.

Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat has written to HSBC CEO in the UK, John Dyfrig, to ask him to ensure that HSBC cash machines remain operational on campus.

"The cash machines on campus are very well used at all times of the day during term time," says Mr Wright. "The queues for them are always noticeably long. It would be a huge blow to students if these machines were lost as well as the bank. I hope that HSBC recognise the need for the cash machines and make sure that they are retained."

Mr Wright's Letter to John Dyfrig:

"Dear Mr Dyfrig,

Closure of HSBC Branch at the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norfolk

I am writing on behalf of students who will be inconvenienced by the closure of the above HSBC branch on 18 April.

In addition to the branch itself which is well used, the two cash machines on the university campus are always in high demand.

It would be of ever greater inconvenience to students if these cash machines were removed.

Can you please investigate and inform me whether these machines will be kept operational at the UEA? I hope very much that you can ensure that your student customers in Norwich are provided for in this way.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Simon Wright"
