Children in Norwich with special educational needs will find it easier to get the help they need, under proposals published today by Lib Dem Children and Families Minister Sarah Teather.
The Green Paper proposes a new single assessment process to join up health, social care and education services.
Commenting, Norwich South MP Simon Wright said:
"At the moment, parents have to battle through a stack of paperwork and a number of different assessments before their child can get the support they need.
"These proposals aim to change all that, joining up services and putting families right at the heart of the approach to special educational needs.
"I'm really keen to hear from parents, teachers, governors and voluntary groups in Norwich about their views on these proposals."

NOTES:
1. In a letter to Liberal Democrat colleagues, Sarah Teather MP said:
"Parents often sense that something is not quite right with their child but face a bewildering array of assessments and paperwork in order to receive the extra support their child needs.
"We hear too many stories of parents having to get separate assessments from health, social services and schools, or having to wait while different agencies argue among themselves.
"This is wrong and we are letting some of our most vulnerable young people down. Today's proposals are about improving support, so that more of these young people can be the author of their own life stories and achieve their aspirations."
