Simon Wright was today sworn in as the new Member of Parliament for Norwich South.
The process of swearing-in is a requirement for all MPs, without which they cannot take part in debates or vote.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Wright said:
"It's been an emotional couple of days for myself and all my new colleagues. Yesterday, I took to the benches for the first time for the election of the Speaker, and today I took my oath of allegiance.
"During my election campaign, I made a pledge to the people of Norwich. I promised to do my very best at representing my community. I will be open and honest about my expenses, and I will never take on any additional employments on top of my role as an MP. My full pledge was put on my website during the election campaign, and it will remain there so people can see that I'm sticking to my word throughout my term of office.
"I'm looking forward to holding my first constituency surgery which my office is in the process of organising. Although I don't have a full complement of staff yet, I do want people to get in touch if there are issues that they'd like to raise with me."
