Polling website predicts Lib Dem gain in Norwich South

May 3, 2010 10:00 AM

Two popular websites, which make election predictions based on polling figures, are now anticipating a Lib Dem gain in Norwich South on Thursday.

Both Electoral Calculus and Politics Home websites are now predicting a Lib Dem gain for the Norwich South seat.

A number of Lib Dem big hitters have visited Norwich in the last couple of weeks, including party leader Nick Clegg, Shirley Williams, Lib Dem president Ros Scott, and Eric Avebury, winner of the famous Orpington by-election for the Liberal Party in 1962. Norman Lamb has also been supporting candidate Simon Wright on the campaign trail.

But as campaigners prepare for the final days, Lib Dem Norwich South candidate Simon Wright says that everything is still to play for:

"I think it's neck and neck in Norwich South between myself and Labour. I'm very grateful for the positive response I've been getting on the doorstep, and it can still go either way.

"There will be just a few votes in it on Thursday, and I really urge everyone to use their vote and to make it count. I've been encouraged that so many people who've voted both Conservative and Green Party in the past are lending their vote to me this time to stop Labour winning.

"The last week or so has seen a huge growth in momentum behind our campaign. It's sad that Labour have resorted to negative attacks on us locally, but it shows they're worried. I think the electorate sees through Labour's scheming though."

In addition to the polling websites, most bookies also have the Liberal Democrats as the favourites to win in Norwich South on Thursday.

If you are a resident of the Norwich South constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
