Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, has written to the Chief Executive of the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society to raise concerns about the proposal to close the Norwich Unthank Road branch in March.
Mr Wright said:
"I've been contacted by a customer who lives near to the branch. She tells me that many local people use the Norwich and Peterborough because of the convenience of having a branch nearby.
"I know that in this part of Norwich there are a particularly high number of elderly people and others with mobility problems who may not find it easy to get to another branch further away. I want to know whether the Norwich and Peterborough have accounted for this in their plans."
"I also want to know what impact the loss of this branch will have on businesses, as banking facilities are limited in the area. Shops may also suffer along Unthank Road if the draw of the building society is lost."
