The referral of the local bus sector to the Competition Commission due to concerns over high fares has been welcomed by campaigners in Norwich.
Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, said:
"Everyone complains about the high cost of buses in Norwich and passengers have faced massive above inflation hikes in recent years.
"It's been clear for some time that deregulation hasn't always led to the best deal for passengers, as the market is dominated by very few national major players. This lack of competition is a major factor leading to high fares.
"This investigation is years overdue, but I welcome it in the hope that it will ultimately lead to a better deal for bus passengers locally."
