Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg has announced this afternoon that his Party will target Labour constituencies at the next general election.
One of the seats set to benefit from extra support is Norwich South, where the Liberal Democrats came very close to unseating former Labour Minister Charles Clarke at the last election.
Nick Clegg said:
"There is no point voting Labour any more. There are no safe Labour seats.
"They will lose every by-election they fight in this Parliament. And at the next general election, they will lose in their heartlands to the Liberal Democrats. A Labour vote is now a wasted vote."
"This is a huge opportunity for us. We've got to seize it. So I'm shifting our resources to put more campaigners and more effort into those seats where we're taking on Labour."
"I've instructed our campaigns chief Chris Rennard to step up our campaigns in the 50 seats where we're best placed to beat Labour."
Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, said:
"Labour will lose seats across the country at the next election, whether its Gordon Brown, Jack Straw or Harriet Harman leading them."
"Norwich South is a marginal Labour seat, and is one of the top targets for the Liberal Democrats. Voters across the constituency are telling me that they've had enough of Labour and now its time for a change. People are turning their backs on Labour and switching to the Liberal Democrats at the next general election."
"Labour have let us down. We need tax cuts for households on low and middle incomes, we need real action to tackle climate change, and we need to give more power to communities to determine local services. Labour simply isn't delivering on these issues."
The result in Norwich South constituency at the last General Election was:
Labour 15,904
Liberal Democrats 12,251
Conservative 9,567
Green 3,101
