Post Office Boss Rewarded for Failure

May 24, 2008 2:06 AM

Royal Mail accounts, published this weekend, reveal that Chief Executive Adam Crozier received a bumper £3 million pay package this year. Yet 51 Post Office branches are set to close across Norfolk with Post Office Ltd claiming that the current network is not financially viable.

Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, said:

"It is a scandal that the head of Royal Mail is receiving fat-cat bonuses while at the same time post offices are being closed to save money."

"Adam Crozier should set an example and refuse to accept such a large pay packet. There is no need for millions of pounds of public money to be given to him. But there are thousands of people in Norfolk who struggle to get by on their pensions and benefit payments, and who absolutely do rely on having a local post office to receive their benefits."

"These bonuses are a huge insult to post-masters in Norfolk and to the campaigners who are fighting to save their local branches. This money should be spent on keeping our post offices open."

Adam Crozier, Chief Executive of Royal Mail, pay package:

Salary £633,000

Annual bonus £381,000

Benefits £20,000

Pension £208,000

3-year bonus £1,993,000

TOTAL £3,235,000

If you are a resident of the Norwich South constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
