10 of Norwich's Primary Schools (listed below) have won class-packs of high-visibility vest-wear as a result of entering a competition draw set up by 3M. Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, wrote to all primary schools in Norwich to encourage them to apply for the draw.
"These vests will give more confidence to children and their parents in making the journey to school," said Mr Wright. "We all want to do our bit to take action for the environment, to tackle childhood obesity, and to promote awareness of road safety issues in children - hopefully, these packs will encourage lots of children and parents in Norwich to walk or cycle to school in the knowledge that they will be seen more clearly."
"I'm especially grateful to 3M for donating even more packs to Norwich schools than they had originally offered," added Mr Wright.
After initially offering 5 packs for schools, a spokesperson for 3M told Simon Wright:
"A total of 10 schools applied, all after the date you sent out your email bringing the article in the paper to their attention. As a thank you for your interest in what we are doing and your effort in helping, I am sending all 10 schools a class set of vests (35) and a couple of adult vests for supervisors."
The winning schools in Norwich are:
Lakenham Primary School
Recreation Road Infant School
Henderson Green Primary School
Wensum Junior School
Larkman Primary School
Cavell Primary & Nursery School
Colman Junior School
Tuckswood Community Primary School
