Lib Dem Leadership Contender Visits Norwich

October 17, 2007 9:25 PM

Chris Huhne MP, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, and possible next Leader of the Liberal Democrats will be visiting Norwich this Saturday. Mr Huhne announced earlier today that he will be contesting the Party's leadership, having come second in the previous contest. He will be visiting Norwich to speak to the Annual Dinner of Norwich South Liberal Democrats on Saturday evening.

Chris Huhne, who was elected to represent Eastleigh at the last General Election, is championing the party's environmental policies. He will be speaking on this subject at the Norwich South Liberal Democrat dinner this Saturday.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, Simon Wright, looks forward to Chris' visit:

"Here in Norfolk, we are on the frontline of climate change. We are a low lying area, and many parts of the county are at risk of flooding. We have a coastline which is crumbling into the sea at an alarming rate. Our coastal communities are at risk now, and rising sea levels are going to make things much worse."

"The Liberal Democrats have been leading the political debate on the environment for many years now. The record of successive Conservative and Labour Government's has been terrible, and carbon dioxide emissions remain unacceptably high. Chris Huhne has continued the strong Liberal Democrat record on the environment by developing new policies on taxing pollution rather than people, and recently unveiling a plan for a carbon-neutral economy by 2050. That's why this summer, Britain's leading environmental groups rated the Liberal Democrats higher than the other main parties on environmental issues."

If you are a resident of the Norwich South constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
