Norwich City Council is facing calls to work alongside leaseholders in resolving a dispute regarding property management fees. Norwich City Council is raising its management fees for leaseholders from £40 to £150, as reported in the Evening News last week. But questions have been asked by some leaseholders about whether the Council is entitled to charge the fee at all.
Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, has spoken to Pauline Walton, Chairman of the Norwich Leaseholders' Association, about the issue:
"I have written to the City Council to urge them to resolve the uncertainty surrounding this charge with the leaseholders. The Council have said that they are legally entitled to charge the management fee, but the leaseholders say that if its not in their lease it shouldn't be charged."
"If the Council have failed to provide adequate leases, then there should be an obligation on their part to resolve this issue."
"I've asked the Council to consider working with leaseholders to obtain a ruling through a Leaseholders Valuation Tribunal. This could be one way of settling the matter."
