The Liberal Democrat "Hands Off Our Hospitals!" petition which objects to the closure of community beds and hospitals in Norfolk on financial grounds can now be signed online at http://www.simonwright.org.uk/petitions/2.html Lib Dems have collected over 10,000 signatures so far. Simon Wright, writing in the Eastern Daily Press regarding the delays over plans for the future, says:
"Those of us who are concerned about the future of our community beds and hospitals in Norfolk must see the opportunity presented by the delayed decision over the future of these facilities.
"Irrespective of the reasons for the delay, the new Chief Executive Julie Garbutt must be congratulated for starting her post with the commitment to visit community hospitals as soon as possible. She will be able to see for herself and hear from local people the reasons why these facilities are so highly regarded.
"I hope that the delay will give the opportunity for the PCT to reflect on the strength of public opinion, and the widespread commitment to our community beds. Liberal Democrats have now collected over 10,000 petition signatures against closures on financial grounds. People want to see as many beds saved as possible. I know from speaking to so many about this issue that the beds and hospitals bring real benefits.
"Nobody likes the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what's in the PCT plans, but this latest delay over their publication can only give grounds for some hope at least."
