Simon Wright Launches Online Petition Calling for Free Personal Care

October 19, 2006 11:48 AM

Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Norwich South, has today launched an online petition calling for free personal care for those in need.

Simon says:

"No-one should have to sell their own home to pay for their care."

"The distinction between a means-tested social care system and an NHS free at the point of delivery seems to me to be completely artificial, and it is the most vulnerable in society who suffer. The Labour Government has neglected its duty, and it should abolish means testing for care."

"The Joseph Rowntree Foundation established earlier this year that the policy in Scotland of providing free personal care for those in need has created a fairer system without undue extra public spending. The Liberal Democrats are calling for the same system to be applied here in England."

"Our elderly in need deserve better. Let's make sure the Government listens."

If you are a resident of the Norwich South constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
